TEAM KCMG SET FOR SUPER FORMULA DOUBLE-HEADER AT MOBILITY RESORT MOTEGI

Team KCMG is set to take on Mobility Resort Motegi in the second double-header of the 2022 Super Formula season in the penultimate race weekend of the year.

Last time out at Fuji Speedway, 2016 Super Formula champion Kunimoto recovered well in an incident-filled race to take eighth for the Hong-Kong based squad, making up 10 positions throughout the 40-lap event.

The championship now heads north of Tokyo to the Tochigi Prefecture for Rounds 7 and 8 at the Mobility Resort Motegi. Ex-F1 driver Kamui Kobayashi has been successful here in the past, taking second place for KCMG in 2017 and 2019.

The 4.801-kilometre road course has hosted Japan’s top tier of motorsport since its opening in 1997. With its long straights and fast sweeping corners, the layout also passes underneath the adjoining oval circuit twice each lap.

Round 7 gets underway on Saturday 20 August, with Round 8 taking place on the following day, Sunday 21 August.

#18 YUJI KUNIMOTO

We’re heading into the second double-header of the season at Motegi, and I think it will be an important weekend for the team. The car felt good last time at Fuji, and we’ll be pushing to build on that result. It’s a really fun and challenging circuit to drive, so I’m looking forward to being back out on track again.”

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

I’ve had some great races at Motegi in the past, and I’m excited to be returning to this circuit. I’ve finished second here with KCMG twice before, so I’m confident it will be a good weekend. Having two races in one event can be difficult, but we’ve been working hard towards improving and continuing the progress we made at Fuji, and we’re eager to get underway and aim for points in both rounds.”

TSUGIO MATSUDA TEAM MANAGER

We’re very happy to return to Mobility Resort Motegi for Rounds 7 and 8. We have a good record here thanks to Kamui’s podium finishes in 2017 and 2019, and we’ll be pushing to try and finish strongly again. Both Yuji and Kamui showed improved pace at Fuji last month, so we’ll be hoping to carry that with us into this weekend and continue progressing towards the front of the grid.”
