TEAM KCMG AIMING TO FINISH 2022 SUPER FORMULA SEASON STRONGLY AT SUZUKA

Team KCMG is targeting a strong end to its 2022 Super Formula campaign at Suzuka Circuit this weekend, as the team prepare to take on the third and final double-header of the season.

The Hong Kong-based squad took a top-10 finish with both cars at the series’ previous visit in April, with Kamui Kobayashi and Yuji Kunimoto putting in superb drives in changeable conditions to secure fifth and sixth respectively.

Both drivers have enjoyed success at this circuit in the past, with Kobayashi finishing on the podium at the 2012 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, while 2016 Super Formula champion Kunimoto took third for KCMG here in 2020.

The 5.807-km Suzuka Circuit first opened in 1962 and has since gone on to become Japan’s most famous racetrack. Hosting rounds of the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix since 1987, the figure-of-eight layout is loved for its fast-flowing turns such as the S-Curves, Dunlop, Spoon and 130R.

Round 9 takes place on Saturday 29 October, before Round 10 concludes the 2022 Super Formula campaign on Sunday 30 October.

#18 YUJI KUNIMOTO

“It’s great to return to Suzuka, I’ve had some positive results here in the past and I love the nature of the circuit and the sweeping corners. It’s a tough layout, and sometimes the weather can be a bit unpredictable like it was in April, but we’re aiming to be back in the top ten and challenging for a good haul of points. We’ve had quite a long break since the last race, so I’m keen to get out on track.”

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“I’m looking forward to returning to Suzuka for the final two rounds of the season. We were quite competitive here earlier in the year and we showed good speed in the dry at the previous round in Motegi, so we’re eager to build on that this weekend. The team has been working hard all season to continue developing and improving the car, so we’re excited to see what we can achieve here.”

TSUGIO MATSUDA TEAM MANAGER

We’re back at the amazing Suzuka Circuit for the final round of the season, and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in this weekend’s double-header. We had a strong event here at the beginning of the year, and the car had great pace in the greasy conditions. Our goal is to achieve a strong starting position with both drivers, so we can move forwards in the two races and end our campaign with another double top-10 finish.”
