SGC by KCMG continued its pursuit of a breakthrough with Ryo Orime in the final stages of Formula Nippon’s season. The team traveled to Sugo after a month’s interlude from competing.
The high-level Japanese series recommenced in Sportsland Sugo last weekend for its 6th event. Orime focused on finding pace in very wet conditions and allotted enough time for practice as it was the Japanese driver’s first time to drive a Formula car in an unfamiliar circuit.
Despite difficulties encountered during qualifying, Orime demonstrated improvements especially after the team changed its tire strategy. However, there still remained a significant gap from the car ahead. At the end of the qualifying session, Orime secured 18th position on the grid.
The following day, Orime had another round of practice before the team sent him out to the grid with a full wet set up. The Japanese driver’s time was improving with each lap and was adjusting well to the car until he spun off on Turn 7, promptly ending his race after his car’s engine stalled.
KCMG Japan General Manager Ryuji Doi has maintained his optimism throughout the season. He states, “Once again, we are happy as we took part in a very high level competition. The team still struggles to make a breakthrough, but we will continue our efforts to achieve our goal. With hard work and more tests with Ryo, we can possibly still have a good run in the final race in Suzuka”
