KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) is set tackle the opening round of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series at Suzuka International Racing Course this weekend, fielding a Honda NSX GT3 Evo 2 for their ST-X category debut.
KCMG Founder Paul Ip and Marchy Lee Ying-Kin make up two-thirds of the driver line-up as they look to continue their successful partnership from last season that saw the duo clinch victory at Mugello in the Italian GT Championship.
2017 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner Ho-Pin Tung completes the trio as he races in KCMG colours for the first time since he competed for the squad at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2013.
KCMG is returning to the championship for the first time since 2019, with the COVID-19 pandemic preventing the team from making the planned step up to the ST-X category the following year.
The Hong Kong outfit also welcomes Takuya Kurosawa as the new Super Taikyu Series Team Manager ahead of the season-opener. Kurosawa raced across the world in a career spanning over two decades, driving at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as competing in CART and several regional Japanese championships.
The opening round of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series takes place at Suzuka International Racing Course on March 18-19.
MARCHY LEE YING-KIN
“I can’t wait to get the campaign started with KCMG, we had a strong test at Fuji Speedway, so it will be good to build upon that. Suzuka has always been one of my favourite circuits, it’s always a pleasure to drive there and I look forward to the challenge of tackling it and scoring a good result for the team.”
HO-PIN TUNG
“The test at Fuji was a really positive step for us, we all gelled well as a team and also managed to familiarise ourselves with the car and the tyres. This weekend will be my first-ever visit to Suzuka, and there is the possibility of weather playing a factor, so I expect it’ll be an exciting one!”
PAUL IP KCMG FOUNDER
“Returning to the Super Taikyu Series in 2023 is something that gives me great pride. We’ve waited a long time for this as the pandemic halted our 2020 programme. I’m also happy to be continuing our relationship with Honda, the car is really fun to drive, and we had a promising pre-season, so I can’t wait to drive alongside Marchy and Ho-Pin! Takuya has joined the squad as Team Manager, it’s very exciting to have him on board and I’m sure he’ll thrive in this environment.”
TAKUYA KUROSAWA TEAM MANAGER
“Firstly, I want to thank Paul for giving me the opportunity to become Team Manager for KCMG in the Super Taikyu Series. I believe my experience can be an asset to the squad and the drivers this year, and I’m confident that we can start the season strongly at Suzuka.”
RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT
“We’re so happy that KCMG is returning to the Super Taikyu Series in 2023. Equally, I’m massively excited for Suzuka, it’s an incredible circuit with a brilliant history and I’m hopeful we can hit the ground running. The team has a great driver line-up, so I can’t wait to see them in action.”
