KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) finished fifth in the opening round of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series as the team made its return to the championship at Suzuka International Racing Course.
After a solid qualifying that saw the team start the five-hour race in sixth, the driver line-up of Paul Ip, Ho-Pin Tung and Marchy Lee Ying-Kin performed well. The trio all put in excellent stints and were looking to finish the race strongly when an incident involving other cars brought out the red flag and ended the race 45 minutes early.
The Super Taikyu Series returns on 27-29 May for the Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours.
HO-PIN TUNG
“I’m really glad that we managed to score solid points on our Super Taikyu Series return. Everyone did a flawless job across the entire weekend and we managed to maximise the result despite not having the pace of the front-runners at times.”
MARCHY LEE YING-KIN
“The race was exciting and finishing fifth on our return to the series is really positive for Team KCMG. To perform at this level after not competing in the championship since 2019 underlines our potential, so I’m really satisfied with the result. Hopefully we can build on this at Fuji.”
PAUL IP KCMG FOUNDER
“I’m delighted to represent Team KCMG in the Super Taikyu Series. It’s superb that our comeback has been marked with a good finish for the squad. Both Marchy and Ho-Pin put in good performances and the Honda NSX GT3 Evo 2 was fun to drive. I can’t wait to get going again in Fuji for the 24 hours!”
TAKUYA KUROSAWA TEAM MANAGER
“At Suzuka the entire team performed well which allowed us to secure a strong result. Another major positive is the Honda NSX GT3 Evo 2, it has so much potential for the remainder of the season and all the drivers and engineers are pushing to unlock it.”
RYUJI DOI HEAD OF MOTORSPORT
“It’s great to be back in the Super Taikyu Series, the whole of Team KCMG is so happy to be here. Our drivers raced really well in Suzuka and there’s a great atmosphere across our crew, particularly after such a good result. The foundations are now in place so that we can fight higher up the grid at the Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours, I’m really looking forward to it.”
