Kids com Team KCMG heads to Suzuka International Racing Course this weekend for Round 3 of the 2023 Super Formula Championship, with Kamui Kobayashi and Yuji Kunimoto ready to take on the world-famous circuit.
In the season-opening double-header at Fuji Speedway earlier this month, the team displayed positive pace in the brand-new Dallara SF23 aerodynamic package, with ex-F1 driver Kobayashi taking a promising points finish in sixth.
The squad has good recent form at the 5.807-kilometre circuit, with both cars in the points in Round 3 last year and showed excellent speed in pre-season testing, where Kobayashi topped the final day. Additionally, 2016 Super Formula champion Kunimoto earned a podium for the team at the track in 2020.
First opened in 1962, the venue is unique on the Super Formula calendar as the only figure-of-eight circuit and features famous turns such as the Esses, Spoon Curve and 130R.

“Suzuka is a track with completely different characteristics to Fuji, but we were here for pre-season testing and set some great lap times, so I’m feeling good ahead of the weekend. We’re looking forward the event and will push as hard as we can to come away with a strong result for the team.”

“We had promising pace at Fuji in Round 1, which gives us confidence coming to Suzuka. We also have the data and experience from pre-season testing here, so we’ll use that ahead of the weekend and rise to the challenge, hopefully scoring some good points.”

“The car was fast last time out in Suzuka, and we’ve had positive results here in recent years, so I’m hoping that trend can continue this weekend. Suzuka is a track where anything can happen, and we’ll be looking to take advantage of opportunities that come our way and finish in the points with both cars.”
