KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) is targeting race victory in Round 2 of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series, as the championship heads to Fuji Speedway for the Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours.
Following their excellent drive to second place in the SP10 class at last weekend’s ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring, Italian racer Edoardo Liberati and Australian Josh Burdon will join the regular trio of Paul Ip, Ho-Pin Tung and Marchy Lee Ying-Kin in the #202 Honda NSX GT3.
Returning to the series for the first time since 2019, the squad welcomed Takuya Kurosawa as Super Taikyu Series Team Manager ahead of the first event of the campaign at Suzuka, where the outfit secured fifth.
The 24-hour race at Fuji Speedway will produce a very different test for the Hong Kong-based squad. Changeable weather conditions are common at the venue, and the 4.563-kilometre circuit is a demanding one, with both fast sweeping corners and technical twisty sections. The 1.475-kilometre pit straight is one of the longest in motorsport and provides a break from the challenging layout, but drivers must stay concentrated ahead of the hard braking zone for Turn 1.
KCMG will also sport a one-off livery for this weekend’s event, in partnership with Japanese fashion brand A Bathing Ape (BAPE). The #202 Honda NSX GT3 has been wrapped in BAPE ABC Camo, featuring the BAPE STA and BAPE 30th anniversary logo to create a unique design for the race.
Qualifying takes place on Friday afternoon, with the race starting at 15:00 local time on Saturday 27 May.
HO-PIN TUNG
“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Honda NSX GT3 again. I’m also looking forward to our line-up being completed by Edo and Josh, two great racers who will be a massive boost to the team. The three of us have all been KCMG drivers for a few years, but we’ve never had the chance to share a car, so I’m excited to work with them this weekend. We’ll look to continue to build on our positive performances at Suzuka and testing at Fuji to be fighting at the front.”
MARCHY LEE YING-KIN
“I’m looking forward to racing in the Super Taikyu 24 hour race with KCMG. We have a strong line-up of drivers and we’ll look to build on what we learned at Suzuka during the first round of the season to secure a successful result.”
JOSH BURDON
“I am excited to join KCMG for the Fuji 24h in the Honda NSX GT3. I love racing in Japan and have great memories when driving at Fuji. It looks like we have a strong car, so I’m hoping to be in the fight for the win.”
EDOARDO LIBERATI
“I’m delighted to be joining KCMG in Japan for this special race! Paul, Marchy, Ho Pin and I had a test day back in February with the Honda NSX GT3, which was very productive. As a team, we have all the ingredients to aim high and fight for the win.”
PAUL IP KCMG FOUNDER
“The 24-hour race at Fuji is an amazing event and I can’t wait to be a part of it with KCMG this year. Our performance at Suzuka was promising and we’re being joined by two fantastic racers in Edo and Josh, fresh from their superb performance at the Nürburgring last weekend. The Honda NSX GT3 feels great to drive and Fuji is a challenging track. It’s not going to be easy, but we’re confident as a team and ready to attack the event and go for victory.”
