KIDS COM TEAM KCMG PREPARED FOR SUPER FORMULA RETURN TO SUGO

Kids com Team KCMG is set to take on Sportsland Sugo this weekend as Super Formula reaches the midway point of the 2023 campaign.

The Hong Kong-based squad will be looking to build on a promising showing last time out at Autopolis, where Yuji Kunimoto secured a points finish.

Kunimoto will once again be teaming up with Kamui Kobayashi. The ex-Formula 1 racer, who competed at the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota last weekend, has positive history at Sugo with KCMG, taking a podium finish there in 2019.

The 3.704-kilometre layout is the shortest on the Super Formula calendar, and challenges drivers with corners such as the S-curve, 110R and Rainbow. The track is also notorious for its elevation changes, with a variation of 69.8 metres per lap.

The entire KCMG team wants to send its best wishes to Team Manager Tsugio Matsuda, who is recovering after his accident in Super GT earlier this month.

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“I think Sugo is a circuit well-suited for our car. After the last event at Autpopolis, it became clear where we need to improve, so we will look to take those steps to enable us to fight well both in qualifying and the race.”

#18 YUJI KUNIMOTO

“Sugo is a very challenging circuit. It’s also one of my favourites, the key here is to have a car to allow you to drive with confidence. We’ll look to improve our recent qualifying performances, before showing strong pace in the race.”

TSUGIO MATSUDA TEAM MANAGER

“Due to my accident in Super GT, I’m taking some time away from the track to concentrate on my recovery, so I won’t be in Sugo for the race. Tetsuya Tanaka will take my role for this weekend and I’m confident he’ll do an excellent job. We’ve improved the cars since Autopolis, so I’m looking forward to seeing how the team performs. Good luck to all and I hope the whole squad is celebrating on Sunday!”
