KCMG BUILDS CONFIDENCE ON GT WORLD CHALLENGE ASIA RETURN

KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) made a promising return to Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia at Fuji International Speedway, originally taking fifth on Sunday before a host of post-race penalties dropped them out of the points.

Returning to the championship for the first time since 2018, KCMG Founder Paul Ip and Italian racer Edoardo Liberati teamed up in the #22 Honda NSX GT3 EVO to tackle the biggest grid in series history.

The pair showed strong pace in both wet and dry conditions throughout the weekend and despite only finishing 26th in Race 1, they battled back on Sunday with an impressive showing. Starting 14th, Liberati put in a superb first stint to come into the pits in third, with Ip eventually securing fifth after some strong defensive driving in the final laps.

However, KCMG, along with several other cars, were awarded post-race penalties which dropped them out of the points and into 22nd place.

The championship returns on 14-16 July at Suzuka International Racing Course.

EDOARDO LIBERATI

“It was a great weekend at Fuji, we showed strong pace and teamwork. We’re pleased with our performance, particularly in Race 2, despite the post-race penalty denying us a strong haul of points. Thanks to Paul and the KCMG crew for their efforts and I can’t wait for the next round at Suzuka!”

PAUL IP KCMG FOUNDER

“It was fantastic for KCMG to be back racing in this championship after so many years away. The field was large and very competitive, we had to fight hard for every position. Edo did a great job and had brilliant pace all weekend, so a massive thanks to him and the team for their work and we look forward to being back racing next month.”

MATT HOWSON TEAM MANAGER

“It was a strong return to Fuji Speedway for KCMG, with Paul and Edo showing great pace in wet and dry conditions all weekend. The series is extremely competitive, so our target was to score points, but finishing a genuine fifth on the road before unfortunate post-race penalties exceeded expectations, especially considering the manic nature of the races with many incidents and plenty of debris to avoid. We go to Suzuka with increased confidence, and will continue to work hard to bring those positive results home!”
