KIDS COM TEAM KCMG HOPING FOR MORE POINTS AT FUJI SPEEDWAY

Kids com Team KCMG returns to Fuji Speedway this weekend for Round 6 of the 2023 Super Formula campaign, looking to build on their strong double-points finish last time out at Sportsland Sugo.

Ex-F1 driver and recent 6 Hours of Monza winner Kamui Kobayashi took an impressive sixth at the venue last month, with 2016 series champion Yuji Kunimoto also showing excellent pace, eventually claiming ninth.

Now, the team looks to build on that result as Super Formula heads back to Fuji. The series took on the circuit for the season-opening double-header, with Kobayashi securing a sixth-placed finish in the second race.

Kids com Team KCMG also took part in a recent mid-season test at the 4.563-kilometre circuit, working on technical programmes that they hope will help for the upcoming race weekend.

Boasting a mega 1.475-kilometre straight, Fuji Speedway is a true challenge of man and machine, as fast sweeping corners mix with technical, twisty sections. Changeable weather conditions are also common at the venue, with the threat of rain never too far away.

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“We had a positive test a few weeks ago at Fuji, but we know that all the other teams will also raise their game for this event. We’ll look to prepare well and challenge for another strong haul of points this weekend.”

#18 YUJI KUNIMOTO

“We’ve been doing plenty of testing and preparation for Fuji. I’m hoping for a clean race, and to be able to feel the progress we’ve made with the car. We’ve done a lot of driving at Fuji this year, including the double-header at the start of the season, so it will be good to see how far we’ve come as a team since then.”

TSUGIO MATSUDA TEAM MANAGER

“We gathered a lot of data at the Fuji test, and will look to make use of this to secure a strong finish this weekend. We’re looking to improve our qualifying runs and maintaining our strong race pace so we can be competitive with the top teams. My condition is improving after my crash last month, I wish I could be there with the squad in Fuji but I’m continuing to rest and recover so I can return fully fit and ready to go.”

TETSUYA TANAKA RACE MANAGER

“After showing improvements at Sugo, we’re hoping to continue in that direction at Fuji. We’ve learned plenty about our car since the last time we raced there in April, so we’re feeling ready to prove our performance and secure strong results with both cars.”
