SGC by KCMG have announced that Japanese driver Naoya Gamou will compete in the final round of Japanese Formula 3 alongside Gary Thompson. Gamou will replace Matt Howson in the 7th and final event of the highly lauded Japanese series which will be held in Fuji Speedway on October 13-14.
Matt Howson, who represented KCMG in the 2011 and 2012 season of Japanese Formula 3, has done an excellent job with the development of the Dallara F308 and has secured podiums for the team despite several challenging conditions this season.
Despite the change of drivers during this concluding point in the series, Howson’s 2013 commitment with KCMG remains steadfast. The team is in talks with the British racer to compete in the 2013 Japanese Formula 3 Championship Class and the highly anticipated Asian Le Mans Series.
Gamou will replace Howson in the championship’s final round due to the latter’s commitment with KCMG’s 2013 plan and in order to avoid Howson and the team to be placed with heavy handicap in the Asian Le Mans Series.
Based in Okayama, the 22 year old Gamou has competed in Super GT300, Japanese Formula 3 and Formula Challenge Japan since 2008. He started his career, racing karts in 2005 and competed in the CIK Asian-Pacific Championship ICA before stepping up to car racing.
During the 2010 season of Japanese Formula 3, Gamou was a constant front-runner in the National Class and claimed 8 wins, 7 pole positions, 12 podiums and 5 fastest laps. After a season’s break from the series, Gamou returns to Japanese Formula 3’s grid with SGC by KCMG.
KCMG Japan General Manager Ryuji Doi is looking forward to an exciting season finale in Fuji, “First of all, I would like to thank Matt Howson for racing with us this season. The team is happy to have worked with him. He has brought us podiums and we have been satisfied by his performance. As we move forward to the season’s last event, the team is eager to work with Gamou and we’re expecting more development in Fuji and hopefully, to win the races.”
