KCMG REFLECTS ON STRONG RETURN TO SUPER TAIKYU SERIES AFTER SOLID FUJI SHOWING

KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) secured fifth place overall in the 2023 Super Taikyu Series as the championship drew to a close at Fuji Speedway last weekend.

The team’s regular line-up of Paul Ip, Marchy Lee Ying-Kin and Ho-Pin Tung took sixth place at Fuji, setting consistently quick lap times during the 134-lap race. In a demonstration of physical and mental stamina, Tung drove the second-longest stint of the race, completing 67 laps.

The 2023 season has been an impressive ST-X debut for KCMG, with the Hong-Kong-based squad taking podium finishes at both the Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours and Okayama International Circuit. These performances are a testament to the strength of the team and drivers throughout the campaign, with Ip, Ying-Kin and Tung excelling in one of Japan’s most competitive championships. In the garage, the engineers and crew worked tirelessly to extract all possible pace from the teams’ ever-rapid Honda NSX GT3 EVO, while never sacrificing the car’s reliability.

After a strong season personally, which also included four rounds in Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia, KCMG founder Paul Ip will take a break from full-time circuit racing and explore other disciplines within motorsport.

MARCHY LEE YING-KIN

“I have thoroughly enjoyed representing KCMG this year. We showed the extent of our ability as a team with some strong results over the course of the season – our two podium finishes at Fuji and Okayama being particular highlights. I am proud of my fellow drivers, and the team, for their successful efforts to maximise the performance of our Honda NSX GT3 EVO both on track and in the garage. Finally, I’d like to thank Paul for being such an integral part of the team, in and out of the car. I wish him the best of luck in his future motorsport endeavours away from circuit racing.”

HO-PIN TUNG

“With the 2023 season over, I’d like to thank our incredible team at KCMG for their work over the course of the year to ensure that we enjoyed flawless reliability at every race. While there will always be moments where we feel we could have achieved even better results, I believe that we gave a strong account of ourselves in this campaign. I’m very pleased with our two podium finishes, in particular our third-place finish at the Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours, the most important and demanding event of the year. Last but not least, thank you to Paul for your endless enthusiasm and passion for motorsport, the year wouldn’t have been the same without you!”

PAUL IP KCMG FOUNDER

“I’m proud to see the team performing so well in a new category, especially after three years away from the series. I’m grateful to our drivers, engineers and crew for their excellent work throughout the campaign to understand and maximise the considerable performance of our Honda NSX GT3 EVO. Though I will undoubtedly miss the thrill of regular circuit racing, I am equally looking forward to experiencing new areas of motorsport, and facing the fresh challenges that lie ahead.”
