KIDS COM TEAM KCMG LOOKING TO SCORE FURTHER POINTS AT SPORTSLAND SUGO

Super Formula heads to Sportsland Sugo in Shibata, Miyagi for Round 3 of the 2024 championship, with Kids com Team KCMG looking to build on a positive weekend last time out in Autopolis.

At Round 2 back in May, the team earned their first double points finish of the campaign, as Nirei Fukuzumi secured P8 and Kamui Kobayashi took P10, showing excellent race pace.

The squad will have fond memories of Sportsland Sugo, where they achieved a double points score last year, and the place Fukuzumi recorded his first ever Super Formula win back in 2021.

The 3.804-kilometere track features a very technical opening half of the lap, with tricky medium speed corners before a flowing second part, which is finished off by the 110R corner that slingshots the cars back onto the home straight.

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“Since the season opener I think we’ve made positive progress on the development of the car thanks to my new engineer, Cosimo Prusciano, and we’re looking to take another step forward at Sugo. I’m really looking forward to the event, and we’ll be aiming to score more points.”

#8 NIREI FUKUZUMI

“The team have worked hard over the break to solve some of the issues that we faced at Autopolis last time out, and we’re hoping to show an improvement on track this weekend. Sugo has fond memories for me from when I took my first victory in Super Formula back in 2021, so I’m excited to be back in front of the amazing fans.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT

“Firstly, I would like to praise Kamui for his efforts at Le Mans last weekend, narrowly missing out on victory, but coming from the back of the Hypercar grid to get second place! This weekend’s event is a quick turnaround for him, but Sugo has been a relatively good circuit for us in the past. We took a podium here with Kamui in 2019, and it was where Nirei achieved his first victory in Super Formula. The weather looks very uncertain currently, but the team will do all it can to extract the best possible result from the event.”
