KIDS COM TEAM KCMG FINISH IN THE TOP-10 IN RACE AFFECTED SUGO RACE

Kids com Team KCMG secured a points finish in a rain-shortened Super Formula race at Sportsland Sugo, which was stopped after just 12 laps.

Kamui Kobayashi and Nirei Fukuzumi started P15 and P16 on the grid respectively, with Kobayashi keen to put his wet weather skills to good use. The 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans podium sitter worked his way up to P11 before a Safety Car halted his progress on Lap 6.

Racing would commence again on Lap 12, where both drivers would make up positions, as Kobayashi battled to P8, while Fukuzumi was just outside the points in P12, before a red flag halted the race on Lap 15, with damage to the barriers at the final corner.

The race wouldn’t be resumed, and the results were counted back from Lap 12, meaning that Kobayashi would have to settle for 10th place, with Fukuzumi 13th. Half points were awarded for the shortened race, meaning the team added 0.5 points to its 2024 tally.

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“I’m pleased to have been in the top-10 for the second consecutive race, as it was an extremely difficult day. It’s a shame that we couldn’t put on a show for the fans, but the most important thing is that everyone involved in the incidents are alright. Our attention now turns to Fuji next month, and hopefully we can get a bit more racing in and show everyone what we can do!”

#8 NIREI FUKUZUMI

“It was a very tricky race with poor visibility due to the weather conditions, so I’m glad that everyone involved in the crashes are well. There are still some areas we need to work on between now and the next race to make sure we can score further points, but I’m confident that we can do so.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT

“Firstly, it’s great that everyone came away from the race safely, because the heavy rain mixed in with the fog made for a tough event. We showed good pace in the wet weather with both cars battling well to make up places. Our record of scoring points in every round so far this season is still going, and we’ll now prepare for the official test days at Fuji on 5-6 July.”
