KIDS COM TEAM KCMG GATHERS PLENTY OF DATA IN FUJI TEST

Kids com Team KCMG completed in-season testing on 7-8 July at Fuji Speedway with plenty of positives to take, as they look to continue their points scoring streak when Super Formula returns to racing.

The squad has had at least one car in the top-10 in each of the last nine races, a run that stretches back to the early rounds of the 2023 season, and approached this test with the goal of continuing to improve their performance.

Nirei Fukuzumi enjoyed a strong first day in the #8 car, finishing the morning session in third and the afternoon in 10th. An engine issue meant Kamui Kobayashi was missing straight line speed compared to his teammate, although the ex-F1 racer still recorded plenty of laps throughout.

In Session 3 on Monday, both drivers racked up 35 tours of the famous Fuji Speedway as they gathered important data to take forwards. The good work continued in the final session, with Fukuzumi once again breaking into the top-10, claiming ninth on the timesheets.

The test will prove extremely valuable in the races to come, with Super Formula visiting Fuji Speedway for Round 4 on 20-21 July, before returning for a double-header in October.

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“This was the final opportunity for testing in 2024, and while we weren’t one of the fastest cars, we gathered plenty of data, which will help form the base of the car set-up for the remainder of the season. We tried a lot of different options, and we’ll look to utilise this experience when we return to Fuji next weekend.”

#8 NIREI FUKUZUMI

“The test went smoothly for me, we didn’t have any major issues on the car and completed a lot of laps. We still have work to do if we want to fight at the front, but the progress we made was very positive and it was a meaningful two days. We’ll analyse the data and aim to use it to improve our performance for the upcoming races.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT

“Despite the hot temperatures in Fuji, the drivers, mechanics and engineers all worked incredibly hard to obtain good results and data. We had an issue on Kamui’s side, which we worked hard over the two days to resolve. For Nirei, it was more straightforward and he was able to enjoy a strong test without many problems. There are lots of positives to take away, and we will look to put these into action when we return to Fuji next weekend. The event is a “Summer Festival” and there will be a variety of events for fans to attend, so we’re looking forward to seeing all the supporters there!”
