KIDS COM TEAM KCMG ENJOYS TWO PODIUMS AND POLE AT FUJI

Kids com Team KCMG celebrated a successful weekend as both Nirei Fukuzumi and Kamui Kobayashi scored podiums at Fuji Speedway, which saw the squad move up to fourth in the teams’ standings with just one event to go.

The crew started the double-header well with Fukuzumi taking pole position for the second time at the track this campaign. A slow initial launch dropped him to fifth on the opening lap, but the 27-year-old delivered a good performance to finish in this position, achieving a strong haul of points.

In the #7 car, Kobayashi benefitted from an earlier pit-stop, putting in a great showing and producing a late overtake to snatch third place, earning his first podium of the 2024 season.

On Sunday, the duo once again qualified in the top 10 with Fukuzumi in third and Kobayashi in ninth. Fukuzumi battled his way up to second in the opening exchanges, and strongly held position to claim his maiden top three finish with the team.

On the other side of the garage, Kobayashi maintained positive race pace throughout, moving from ninth to fifth, ensuring both cars finished in the top five in both races over the weekend. These strong results saw the squad jump to fourth in the teams’ championship.

Super Formula heads to Suzuka for the final event of the 2024 on 8-10 November, which is also a double-header.

#8 NIREI FUKUZUMI

“I’m delighted to take my first podium of the season with a second-placed finish. The result backed up another good performance in the opening round on Saturday, after taking my second pole position this year. It’s great to see Kamui up on the podium on Saturday which caps off an unbelievable weekend for the team! It’s clear to see we’re improving, and hopefully we can continue this into the final event of the year at Suzuka.”

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“It’s amazing to secure an excellent haul of points from the weekend with third and fifth-place results. The car felt strong for both of us across the event, which was reflected in the top-five finishes over the two races. We’ll make sure we keep working hard to constantly be achieving these great results, and to end the 2024 season off on a high.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT

“I’m thrilled to celebrate our first podiums of the season and all in the space of an amazing two days at Fuji Speedway. We were so close to securing our first Super Formula win, but we must be happy with an excellent haul of points which sees us move up to fourth in the teams’ standings. I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff, who’ve worked so hard to get us into this position in the championship. Throughout the event we were brilliant in high-pressure situations, meaning we’re now full of confidence heading to Suzuka next month, where we’ll be looking to fight for the highest possible finish across both championships.”
