Kids com Team KCMG will be looking to build on their solid start to the 2025 Super Formula campaign in Rounds 3 and 4 at Mobility Resort Motegi this weekend.
Kamui Kobayashi clinched fifth and ninth in the opening double-header of the season at Suzuka Circuit, although the ex-F1 racer will be absent for the Motegi round due to his commitments with Toyota GAZOO Racing in the World Endurance Championship.
Seita Nonaka will fill his place in the #7 car, partnering Nirei Fukuzumi. Nonaka previously drove for the team at the post-season test in 2024, where he impressed the squad with his pace and consistency.
Following its good start to the season, the squad will be hoping to continue its streak of points-scoring finishes, which stretches all the way back to Round 4 in 2023.
Formerly known as Twin Ring Motegi due to having both an oval and road course, the 4.8-kilometre track is a regular on the calendar, with Japan’s premier single-seater championship visiting the Tochigi-prefecture circuit every year since 1997. The layout features several fast, sweeping curves, with overtaking most likely into Turn 11, following the long back straight.
#8 NIREI FUKUZUMI
“It was a tough weekend for us last time out as I wasn’t able to score points, but there were some positive to take from the event. Motegi will be very different this season due to the time of year we are visiting, as well as the new tyres, so the focus is on quickly adapting to these conditions. We’ll continue to work together on various aspects throughout the weekend to deliver a great result.”
#7 SEITA NONAKA
“I’m delighted to get the opportunity to race for Kids com Team KCMG after working with the squad during last season’s Rookie Test. I’ve raced at Motegi multiple times in Super Formula Lights, so I’m hoping this experience can help me for the upcoming event. I would like to thank everyone who has made this opportunity to compete in Super Formula possible and I’ll aim to deliver positive results for the team.”
RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT
“It’ll be the first time that Seita Nonaka has raced for Kids com Team KCMG and we’re confident he’ll be able to build on the potential shown in last year’s Rookie Test. Nirei was unfortunate not to pick up points during the opening rounds, but we know how strong of a driver he is and we’re expecting him to bounce back in Motegi. The weather will play a major factor in the event as rain is forecast on Sunday, so we’ll have to be ready to react on the pit-wall. We’re all set for the weekend and aiming to fight at the front of the field as we aim for the podium places.”
