KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) heads to the historic Silverstone Circuit this week for FIA World Endurance Championship’s season opener. The 6 Hours of Silverstone, which will be held on April 20, will officially kick off the third edition of the World Championship.
Represented by Richard Bradley, Matt Howson and Tsugio Matsuda, KCMG is set for it’s new LMP2’s race debut at the Northamptonshire track. The Chinese squad’s Nissan-powered Oreca 03 shod with Dunlop tyres completed successful pre-season tests at Circuit Aragon and Paul Ricard in preparation for WEC’s first event this year.
KCMG made a notable WEC debut by claiming 6th position in the LMP2 category during the 6 Hours of Silverstone last year. This season, the team returns to the world-class motorsport venue with intentions of making a strong start to the championship’s eight-race calendar.
WEC’s opening event begins on Friday, where teams will have two 90-minute practice sessions. Qualifying will be held the following day at 12h00 local after the final practice. The lights go out to start the 6 Hours of Silverstone at 12h00 on Sunday.
Richard Bradley, KCMG WEC Driver: “I can’t wait for the 6 hours of Silverstone and after the progress we made during our last test in Paul Ricard, we can be confident of a strong showing. We are well prepared and I can’t wait to get a good result in my first car race in front of my home crowd.”
Matt Howson, KCMG WEC Driver: “The preparation before the opening round this weekend has gone as well as can be expected. Silverstone at this time of year has a habit of throwing variable weather conditions at you! But the team is excellent, as are my teammates, and many questions we still have will be answered in the Friday practice sessions. We have reasons to feel confident of challenging for the LMP2 win, and along with careful planning, we must fulfill our potential.”
Tsugio Matsuda, KCMG WEC Driver: “To compete in the 6 Hours of Silverstone will mark a new milestone in my career and I am honored to represent KCMG in this new challenge. The Silverstone round will be the team’s first race in the Oreca 03 and I am looking forward to working with the team again. We produced positive results in the last test at Paul Ricard and have prepared well for WEC’s opening event this weekend. Our aim is to fight at the front and start strong in the world championship.”
Paul Ip, KCMG Managing Director: “Our LMP2 debut in Silverstone last year was marked by an impressive result and we are not settling for anything less this weekend. The team has worked hard to prepare for WEC’s opening round, where we will field the new Oreca 03 – Nissan for the first time. The team is confident that Richard, Matt and Tsugio will perform well and we are ready to challenge for victory in one of the largest global platforms in motorsport.”
