KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) clinched its first podium finish during the second event of the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship, which was held from May 9-11 at Twin Ring Motegi. Shohei Yuzawa scored KCMG’s first championship points in Round 4 of the highly competitive Japanese series.

Covering three races on Motegi’s 4.8km circuit, the championship’s second event witnessed KCMG make significant headway as Shohei Yuzawa pushed throughout the weekend.

In dry conditions, the Japanese driver completed Friday’s qualifying sessions in 6th and 4th position in the National Class. Later that afternoon, Yuzawa finished Race 3’s 14-lap session in 6th place.

Race 4 provided Yuzawa the opportunity to challenge at the front of the field after taking third spot from Rintaro Kubo of CG Robot. The Japanese driver defended his position until the chequered flag dropped and ultimately took his first podium of the season.

Yuzawa hustled for another strong result in Race 5, as a fierce battle for 4th position with Hiroshi Koizumi took place for several laps. Despite his efforts, Yuzawa had to settle for a 5th place finish after the final 20-lap round.

Shohei Yuzawa, All-Japan Formula 3 Driver: “Overall, I wasn’t satisfied with my performance in Motegi as I made several mistakes that kept us from securing better positions on the grid and at the field. Still, I am happy to score my first podium with the team this season. My goal was to win, but I know future rounds will give me a chance to challenge for victory.”

Ryuji Doi, KCMG Japan General Manager: “Yuzawa-san made valuable progress this weekend and the team was very pleased with the podium finish that he delivered in Race 4. However, he still he needs to improve in a lot of areas and we will be working closely with him, ideally through testing sessions, during the short interval before the next event in Okayama.”
