KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) sealed the third event of the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship with two podiums at Okayama International Circuit over the weekend (June 14-15). After making impressive headway in Rounds 6 and 7 of the Japanese series, Shohei Yuzawa now ranks fifth in the class standings.
Yuzawa clinched 3rd and 2nd positions in the National Class grid after two intense qualifying sessions on Friday. The Japanese driver was just less than a tenth of a second behind Net Move Hanashima Racing’s Hiroshi Koizumi during the first qualifying run. In the blue and white #19 Dallara F308, Yuzawa continued to demonstrate such competitive pace in the second session but had to settle for P2 after setting the second fastest time of 1’27.818.
In fine conditions, Round 6 saw the Japanese driver battle it out with six other National Class contenders. However, Yuzawa’s efforts resulted in a third place finish, after challenging Koizumi for P2 during the 25-lap race.
The Japanese driver was off to a good start in Sunday’s race and maintained a steady pace while attempting to grab the lead from Round 7 polesitter Koizumi. After the 30-minute pursuit to class victory, Yuzawa secured his second podium of the weekend, completing the Japanese championship’s seventh round in second place.
Shohei Yuzawa: “We were very close to taking victory over the weekend and the team is happy with this progress that we made at Okayama. I was pushing very hard as it was my objective to win the races, but two podiums is a very good result and I am quite happy. There is still so much to learn and I will be working very hard and hope to finally take class victory in the next round in Fuji.”
Ryuji Doi, KCMG Japan General Manager: “Yuzawa’s progress is evident and the team is pleased with the results that he delivered at Okayama. The pace that he has shown was very competitive and he is becoming more adept in controlling the car. We are now looking forward to the next event in Fuji, a circuit that is very familiar to Yuzawa, and we’re hoping to finally secure our first victory of the season there.”
