KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) clinched its fourth podium finish of the season in the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship’s fourth event at the picturesque foothills of Mount Fuji over the weekend (July12-13). Shohei Yuzawa now sits fifth in the National Class standings after Rounds 8 and 9 of Japanese formula series.
Saturday’s qualifying run saw the Japanese driver place the #18 Dallara F308 towards the front of the grid. Yuzawa’s efforts in Q1 and Q2 resulted in a P3 finish in both sessions.
Fine weather continued to grace Fuji Speedway for JF3’s first race later in the afternoon. However, Yuzawa struggled on the opening lap and was unable to recover. After 15-laps, the Japanese driver wrapped up Round 8 in fifth place.
The weather forecast for Sunday was hinting at rain, but favorably, Round 9 was held in dry conditions. Starting from third place, Yuzawa got off to a strong start and defended his position from National Class contenders throughout the 21-lap session. At the end of the final race, the Japanese driver emerged third in class.
Shohei Yuzawa: “We had our highs and lows over the weekend but it’s good to wrap up the event with another podium finish. We’ve tried different setups on the car as we anticipated variable track conditions at Fuji and it has been a good learning experience for the team and myself. My goal is to win and that will be my aim for the next event at Twin Ring Motegi.”
Ryuji Doi, KCMG Japan General Manager: “We are halfway through the season and so far, we’ve produced promising results. Yuzawa has delivered a handful of podium finishes and this encourages the team to push for victory. Motegi will be a new opportunity for us to achieve this goal.”
