KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) displayed strong form in All-Japan Formula 3 Championship’s sixth event as they capped off the weekend with two podiums at Sportsland Sugo. The Hong Kong-based team concluded the Japanese Formula series’ penultimate two-race affair with commendable results after Shohei Yuzawa finished second in the National Class in Races 12 and 13.

Yuzawa’s efforts to place the #19 Toyota-powered Dallara F308 at the front row of the grid highlighted a good qualifying run during the first session. The Japanese driver clinched second position during the first qualifying and went on to secure third spot on the starting grid on the second run.

Race 12 was held in fine conditions, with KCMG starting from the front row. Soon as the lights went out, Yuzawa and Tairoku Yamaguchi were engaged in a fierce battle for the lead. The struggle to take first place between the two drivers lasted throughout the 18-lap race on Sugo’s 3.704km circuit. However, Yuzawa’s attempt to grab the top spot was resisted by opposition and had to settle for a second place finish.

Yuzawa was off to a strong start in Race 13 and managed to overtake Hiroshi Koizumi, who was just behind the race leader, at the first corner of the third lap. Now running in second, Yuzawa defended his position for numerous laps and was off to challenge for the lead. The blue and white #18 car was tracking down Rintaro Kubo, but the latter was able to maintain the gap during the race’s final minutes. After 25 laps, Yuzawa crossed the finish line in second place, claiming KCMG another podium.

Shohei Yuzawa: “It was good to be back on the podium twice this weekend after a trying outing at Motegi in August. It was a challenging weekend and I fought hard to finish both races with good results. The team did a good job and also, I’d like to thank all our followers who came all the way to Sugo to support us.”

Ryuji Doi, KCMG Japan General Manager: “Overall, it was a good weekend for the team and we’re happy to come away with two podiums at Sugo. The National class has a very competitive grid and I’m pleased that we were consistently in the Top 2. I’d like to commend the team for a job well done this weekend and we’re all looking forward to JF3’s final race at Suzuka next month.”
