Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG rounded off a momentous weekend after claiming Formula Masters China Series’ Team Trophy and Drivers’ championship crown at Shanghai International Circuit. The Asian Formula series’ final triple-header, which was held as part of the Shanghai Sports Car Festival, witnessed James Munro and Dan Wells each wrap up one of Formula Masters closing races on top of the podium.
James Munro sealed the Drivers championship title after scoring his eighth FMCS victory, followed by a fifth-place finish during the championship’s first two races. Dan Wells also wrapped up a strong season and finished third in the Drivers’ Classification after delivering three podiums, which included a race win, over the weekend.
Munro’s lights-to-flag victory along with Well’s third-place finish in Race 16 secured Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG the 2014 FMCS Team Trophy Award. Race 17’s seven-lap sprint saw the team take its third podium of the weekend after Wells finished the race in third place. Meanwhile, polesitter Munro failed to recover the lead after spinning off track on the opening lap. However, his fifth place finish in Formula Masters’ penultimate race of the season was enough to secure him the Drivers Championship title.
Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG concluded Formula Masters final race on a high. After a dramatic race-long battle with Meritus GP’s Jake Parsons, Wells capped off the season with his second FMCS victory. Munro was also on a mission as he challenged Yuya Motojima of Super License for third place. After 11 intense laps on Shanghai’s 5.451km layout, Munro had to settle for a fourth place finish.
After six thrilling events around Asia, Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG concludes the 2014 season of Formula Masters China Series with 23 podiums including eight race wins by Munro and two by Wells.
James Munro: “What an amazing weekend it has been. It’s been an absolute pleasure being part of the team and for us to take both the team and driver titles in one weekend made it a very special one. I can’t speak highly enough of everyone in the team. They have done an incredible job all season.”
Dan Wells: “I’d like to thank KCMG for their part in ensuring my season finished better than it started. To finish with three podiums, including a win in the final race is great and I’d like to thank everyone behind the scenes who made it all possible. I’ve learned a lot this year, and I hope to take all the positives with me to Japanese F3 in 2015.”
John O’Hara, KCMG Deputy Managing Director: “The Team Trophy and Drivers’ championship title has been our aim since the start of the season and to secure both titles in Shanghai is such a great accomplishment for the team. Our drivers have done a great job and I want to congratulate them for the fantastic season. I also would like to commend our crew who have worked tirelessly throughout the year and to thank everyone who supported us in this campaign.”
