Rounds 3 and 4 of FIA Japanese F4 concluded over the weekend at Fuji Speedway’s panoramic 4.563km circuit. The Hong Kong-based team faced a trying weekend as drivers James Munro and Yuki Nemoto fought hard to score championship points in their blue and white Toyota-powered F4 Dome cars.
The second event of the highly contested Japanese series enjoyed sunny conditions throughout the race weekend and highlighted close battles amidst a 38-car grid. Displaying competitive pace, the Toyota Racing School-backed Japanese driver rounded off both races in the top ten as he finished the two 15-lap challenges in eighth place.
Meanwhile, Munro’s maiden outing at the arduous Japanese circuit proved to be a good learning curve for the Christchurch driver. Munro posted impressive times as he tackled Fuji’s challenging configuration for the first time. Moving seven places up the field, Munro wrapped up the first race in sixteenth place. Unfortunately, luck was not on the 18-year-old driver’s side for the second race, as a collision with Yamada Liao on the third lap forced Munro to retire early from the race.
James Munro: “It was a tough weekend for the team and quite frustrating especially after having the second race cut short by an accident. On the positive side, we’ve made big steps forward with the car and I’m confident we’ll be much more competitive at the next round.”
Yuki Nemoto: “I’m happy to have finished both races in the points and would like to thank the team for providing me with a competitive car. There’s still a lot of work to be done since our aim is to win the championship. My eyes are set to scoring my first win when we return to Fuji for Rounds 5 and 6.”
KCMG Head of Motorsport Ryuji Doi: “We’ve made significant headway over the weekend and we’re pleased with the pace that James and Yuki displayed in both races. It was unfortunate that James’ race ended early on Sunday but overall, we’ve produced promising results and we look forward to the series’ next event at Fuji.”
