KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) travels to the Middle East for FIA World Endurance Championship’s (WEC) final event at Bahrain International Circuit this weekend. The Hong Kong-based squad is primed to round off the season in style and has their sights set on challenging for the LMP2 crown in the World Championship’s concluding six-hour challenge on Sakhir’s 5.412km Formula 1 track.
KCMG returns to the Kingdom of Bahrain, where they scored their second WEC LMP2 victory with the ORECA 03R piloted by Richard Bradley, Matt Howson and Alexandre Imperatori last season. This year, Bradley and Howson shares the Le Mans-winning #47 ORECA 05 with British ace Nick Tandy, as the team targets to seal ultimate victory in Sakhir and claim the 2015 LMP2 championship title.
KCMG heads to WEC’s season finale in second place with 137 points in the LMP2 team classification. The Asian outfit will be up against tough opposition, but the tenacious KCMG trio of Bradley, Howson and Tandy are set to battle it out for valuable championship points into the night. On-track action will begin with three free practice sessions, which will be held on Thursday and Friday morning. Qualifying gets underway on Friday afternoon, with the start of the 6 Hours of Bahrain taking place at 15:00 local on Saturday.
Richard Bradley: “It’s nice to go back to a circuit that’s been kind to us. We’ve come away with strong results throughout the season and without a doubt, we have a very competitive car and driver line up. We have the capability to win this race and claim the world championship, so I’m really looking forward to doing my best in Bahrain.”
Matt Howson: “After the challenges of Shanghai, we look forward to Bahrain knowing we’re the fastest package on the LMP2 grid. With the championship all to play, our aim is to take the fight to our rivals and dominate the final round of 2015.”
Nick Tandy: “My last race in Bahrain was back in 2010 in Porsche Super Cup and I had good success there. It’s a nice circuit and I enjoyed the country. This event is the culmination of a season’s work with KCMG, so now’s the time to knuckle down hard, get the work done in practice, make sure that we push for the points in qualifying and score maximum. It’s up to our opposition to do their job and hopefully we come on top.”
Erich Kolb, KCMG WEC Team Manager: “The team has done an outstanding job throughout the season and the 6 Hours of Bahrain will be our final challenge. We did extremely well on this circuit last year with the ORECA 03R and I’m confident that we can have same success with the ORECA 05. Our aim now is to finish on top and wrap up the season with the LMP2 crown.”
