KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) returns to racing action as their 2016 motorsport calendar kicks off with Asian Le Mans Series third round at Chang International Circuit, Thailand on January 9-10. The Le Mans-winning Hong Kong-based outfit enjoyed a highly-successful year in sports car endurance racing after wrapping up their second full season in FIA World Endurance Championship as 2015 LMP2 Vice Champion. Moreover, KCMG also clinched Asian Le Mans Series’ GT Am crown after Paul Ip, Christian Ried and Dan Wells completed the premier Asian championship’s second event at Sepang International Circuit in December.
Ip will share the #51 Porsche GT3 Cup car with Formula Masters 2015 champion Martin Rump and Chinese ace Yuan Bo in the series’ much-anticipated third three-hour round on Buriram’s 4.554km circuit. After competing in notable motorsport venues around Asia last year, the trio now look forward to their first outing at the Hermann Tilke designed track. This weekend’s racing action will begin with two free practice sessions held on Saturday morning (January 9), followed by Qualifying in the afternoon. The start of the 3 Hours of Buriram will take place at 13:00 local on Sunday.
Yuan Bo: “I’m looking forward to race at Buriram in the Porsche GT3 with Paul and Martin. It will be a new challenge for me but I intend to give my best and deliver positive results with the team this weekend.”
Paul Ip: “Its been quite a long break from racing and I’m excited to be back in the car. It will be my first time to race at Buriram and I look forward to learning its configuration and share driving duties with Martin and Yuan, who have both excelled in Formula Master last season. This event is a great way to commence our 2016 motorsport calendar and we’re all looking forward to a thrilling season ahead.”
Martin Rump: “I’ve had a fantastic season with KCMG in Formula Masters and it’s great to be back with the team in a different platform and to drive the Porsche GT3. It’s an amazing opportunity to compete in Asian Le Mans with the team and I’m looking forward to deliver strong results with Paul and Yuan.”
John O’Hara, KCMG Asian Le Mans Series Team Manager: “The entire team is looking forward to the race in Thailand after the month-long season break. Also, we’re thrilled to have Martin and Yuan drive the GT3 Cup car with Paul. Our main goal this weekend is to kick off the year strong and finish Asian Le Mans’ third event with positive results.”
