KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) managed to score valuable championship points despite a tough weekend in Audi R8 LMS Cup’s Rounds 5 & 6 at Sepang International Circuit. Jan Kisiel and Akash Nandy tackled Audi’s Asian sprint race series’ two-race event in searing circuit conditions and managed to conclude both rounds in the top ten.
Kisiel’s maiden outing at Sepang’s F1 track was stymied by a mechanical glitch during the final practice session, which kept the Polish driver from completing valuable laps to prepare for Qualifying. Undeterred by this setback, Kisiel went on to finish both races and claimed a P10 and P9 finish over the weekend.
Malaysian ace Akash Nandy’s performance in the #29 GT3 car showed promising progress throughout the event. Racing on his home soil, Nandy’s first taste of the Audi R8’s power resulted in a top nine finish for both races. Meanwhile, Champion Racing Team pilot Martin Rump, managed to cap off the weekend with a P8 and P7 finish in the #18 Audi R8 entry serviced by KCMG.
KCMG moves forward from the tough weekend and will start its preparations for Rounds 7 and 8 of the highly competitive Asian series at Korea International Circuit next month.
Akash Nandy: “There’s a lot to learn about driving a GT3 car and I felt happy being in a different scenery. I was hoping for much better result compared to what we had and I believed that the team and I was definitely in contention for top 5 finish, nonetheless it’s only onwards and upwards and I will continue to keep pushing no matter what. I just want thank my family, the team and friends for their amazing support.”
Jan Kisiel: “I am a little disappointed with the weekend at Sepang. The fact that the alternator belt on my car failed and I ended up having to spend the majority of the second practice session in the pits did not help us get ready for qualifying. It was a tough weekend but I hope we’ll have better luck in Korea.”
