KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) went through a series of highs and lows during the fourth event of Audi R8 LMS Cup as Jan Kisiel, Dan Wells and Champion Racing Team driver Martin Rump tackled a challenging two-race outing at Korea International Circuit over the weekend.
Despite several setbacks, KCMG drivers Kisiel and Wells delivered strong drives and finished both races in the top ten. Meanwhile, Estonian ace and Formula Masters 2015 champion Rump managed to seal a podium finish during Sunday’s race after bouncing back from the obstacles he experienced the previous day.
Race 1 saw Kisiel’s steady progress as he stormed his way into third place, but a 1.5 second penalty due to a contact with an opponent dropped him one place down the leaderboard. The Polish driver went on to round off Race 2 in the top eight and was eventually promoted to seventh place after another driver received a 30 second post-race penalty.
Meanwhile, Wells managed to finish his Audi R8 LMS Cup debut race in fifth place and was only two seconds behind a podium placing at the end of Saturday’s 13 lap run. The second race was a standing start and the British driver managed to finish in sixth place with the fourth fastest lap of the session.
The KCMG-serviced Audi R8 of Champion Racing Team driver Martin Rump had some disappointing sessions last Saturday, but the team’s hard work and Rump’s impressive driving skills paid off during the last race, which resulted in a second place finish.
Jan Kisiel: “I was quite happy with my strong race pace which I was able to maintain thanks to all the hard work on the part of my engineer and the whole KCMG team who did a great job preparing the car. I have my sights set on another podium finish at Penbay.”
Dan Wells: “This weekend has been a great experience for me and I have learnt a lot. I’d like to thank Audi Motorsports Asia, KCMG, Formula Masters China Series and Choctails for allowing me to make my debut in the series and I hope that I can return. The car is awesome to drive and even better that it was at such a fun track as Korea – the close proximity of the walls gives a similar sensation to that of driving a street track – which I very much enjoy.”
Martin Rump: “This weekend was rewarding, yet one of the toughest I’ve had. Setbacks in free practices and qualification set the weekend off the wrong foot. Then everything went upwards. Race 1 we managed to improve with a points finish. Race 2 I had the biggest fight from fifth to a second place finish. KCMG did such a great job, we continue in the title fight!”
