SGC by KCMG was off to a challenging fourth round of Formula Nippon which resumed at Fuji Speedway last weekend. Team driver, Ryo Orime, competed against 17 other drivers in wet/dry conditions in hopes to get his first point for the season.
The team was confident that Orime could manage to secure a better position on the grid during qualifying with the car’s new set-up and with the Japanese driver being familiar with the Fuji circuit.
Orime started in 17th position and passed 2 cars after the first corner during Lap 1. A few laps after his pit stop to change from dry to wet tires, the Japanese driver spun off the outside of the 100R corner which caused his engine to stall. Orime completed 37 laps before he retired from the race.
KCMG Japan General Manager Ryuji Doi states, “We still have a big gap on the pace. Our target is at least to be in the Top 8. The team has to work harder together to achieve this. We need to catch up and start challenging at the front. Our aim would be to get that first point, and hopefully, a podium in the future. The team will continue to work hard and we appreciate the support that we are getting from everyone.”
