KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) is delighted to confirm that Kamui Kobayashi will once again join their 2018 Super Formula campaign, following the official announcement made by Toyota through their website today. The Japanese ace, who has raced in the premier single-seater series since 2015, will be back in the blue and white #18 carrozzeria Team KCMG SF14 in Super Formula’s seven-event calendar.
Kobayashi wrapped up Super Formula’s 2017 season in the top seven, scoring a total of 16.5 points for Team KCMG. He then went on to conclude the championship’s two-day post-season test in December, delivering promising results after garnering the ninth fastest time overall at Suzuka Circuit. Apart from competing in Super Formula, the Pioneer carrozzeria-backed driver will divide his time between FIA World Endurance Championship’s LMP1-H grid with Toyota Gazoo Racing, sharing the #7 TS050 Hybrid with Mike Conway and José Mariá López and Super GT 500, joining Lexus Team Sard with Heikki Kovalainen in 2018.
Kamui Kobayashi: “I’m very happy to be back with KCMG this year. We had a promising run last season and managed to wrap up the championship in seventh place. That was a massive step forward for the team and our aim is to return stronger and better in 2018. I’m also very pleased to welcome Pioneer carrozzeria, who will serve as our new partner in the upcoming season. I’m confident that we will have a formidable year ahead and I cannot wait to be back with the team for this challenge.”
Ryuji Doi, KCMG Head of Motorsport: “We are delighted that Kamui will be back to join us in our Super Formula 2018 campaign and once again, we’d like to extend our gratitude to Toyota for allowing this to happen. We are also thrilled to welcome Pioneer carrozzeria as our new partner for 2018 and in line with our new campaign with the brand, we will be running as carrozeria Team KCMG in the upcoming season. We’re confident of a strong year ahead and we’ve already started preparations to ensure that Kamui will be geared with the best car possible.”
