SGC by KCMG perseveres for improvement despite a tough weekend during Round 5 of Formula Nippon in Twin Ring Motegi yesterday. The team endured extreme heat at the circuit as they worked with Ryo Orime to be on the pace throughout the race weekend.
Expecting some progress during qualifying, the Japanese driver’s gap to the front significantly decreased. However, pace was still off and Orime started in 18th position on the grid.
Orime made a good start and overtook two cars on the first corner securing 16th position. However, Koki Saga collided with Orime from the rear before the 3rd corner which pushed Orime off the circuit and caused his engine to stall. Disappointed, Orime had to retire early in the race despite a very promising start.
KCMG Japan General Manager Ryuji Doi expressed, “The team still has a long way to go. Qualifying was still not satisfactory but the gap to the front is getting less. We are improving but we still have to work harder to qualify better. The race was disappointing as Orime made a good start and could’ve done better if he had not retired early in the race. Still, we are positive that development will take place in the upcoming rounds.”
