KCMG’s Paul Ip to represent Hong Kong in FIA Motorsport Games GT Cup

KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) was selected to supply the new Formula 4 car for the highly anticipated FIA Motorsport Games at Vallelunga (31 October – 3 November), and now team founder Paul Ip has been nominated as one of the drivers to represent Hong Kong in the GT Cup category.

Since its unveiling in June, KCMG has shown strong support for the Motorsport Games, and the event marked another milestone for the Hong Kong-based squad, this time as an official car manufacturer of the new hybrid F4 car, the KC MG-01.

Further highlighting Ip’s involvement in the event, the team founder and racer will wave the Hong Kong flag in the second edition of the FIA GT Nations Cup, driving a Honda NSX GT3 Evo alongside the vastly experienced Marchy Lee.

This year’s GT Nations Cup follows on from the successful standalone event last year in Bahrain, where two drivers graded Silver or lower were able to compete for their nation. This time it will form a part of the Motorsport Games, with the two Qualifying Race and single Main Race format remaining unchanged.

KCMG will not be involved as a race team, as it is attending the event as a manufacturer for the F4 Cup, with team support instead coming from Reno Racing, who have successfully run Honda cars across several categories over the years.

Ip has contested select rounds of TCR Japan and the Super Taikyu this year, driving a Honda Civic Type R TCR FK8, but has tasted success in GT3 machinery, having been crowned the 2015-16 Asian Le Mans Series GT-Am champion.

Paul Ip, KCMG Founder: “It’s an honour for me to represent my home country at the inaugural Motorsport Games at Vallelunga. KCMG will already have a strong presence there as the supplier of the KC MG-01 F4 cars, and we’re still very much looking forward to seeing them in action. Last year’s FIA GT Nations Cup event in Bahrain was fantastic, showing huge potential and I believe this edition will be even better. I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a GT3 car and hopefully having some exciting races. Thank you to the Hong Kong Automobile Association and FIA for making this all possible.”

Marchy Lee, GT Nations Cup Hong Kong driver: “I am very pleased and happy to be selected together with Paul as the representatives of Hong Kong in the GT Nations Cup. It’s great to bring the Hong Kong flag to the FIA Motorsport Games and try our best to achieve a good result. I am looking forward to sharing a car for the first time with my old friend Paul and I am sure we both will have a lot of great moments together at Vallelunga. Let’s push and hopefully come back with a trophy for Hong Kong.”

The FIA Motorsport Games gets underway on 31 October, with two free practice sessions taking place on Friday 1 November. Qualifying and the opening Qualification Race will form Saturday’s schedule, before the final Qualification Race and Main Race rounds off the event on Sunday.
