FIA Motorsport Games GT and Touring Car Cup await Team Hong Kong

Team Hong Kong will be represented in the GT and Touring Car Cup during the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games from Vallelunga, Rome (1-3 November) with KCMG founder Paul Ip, Marchy Lee and Jim Ka To.

A first of its kind event, the FIA Motorsport Games takes six disciplines for which nations can win bronze, silver and gold medals that contribute to an overall points table, with Team Hong Kong taking part in two of the categories.

In the GT Cup, KCMG founder Paul Ip will partner Marchy Lee in the #22 Honda NSX GT3 Evo. Ip’s preparations for this event has included several outings in the Honda Civic Type R TCR in the new TCR Japan Touring Car Series and the Japan-based Super Taikyu endurance series, but he will also lean on his GT3 experience from Asian Le Mans Series.

His team-mate Lee has a wealth of sports car racing knowledge as a regular on the Blancpain GT Series scene, in both the endurance and Asian sprint series, and also has two Nürburgring 24 Hour starts under his belt.

Qualifying will determine the grid for the two ‘qualifying races’, the results of which will set the order for the Main Race where the medals will be won.

After recently making his WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup debut at Suzuka, Jim Ka To will represent his country in the Touring Car Cup with the Honda Civic Type R TCR. Ka To’s history with KCMG stretches back to 2013, when he was part of the team’s FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 line-up and has gathered plenty of experience in the Civic Type R during the 2019 season in Super Taikyu.

The Touring Car Cup will be made up of two races, the first being 25 minutes +1 lap and the second 30 minutes +1 lap. Medals will then be awarded based on the combined results of the two races.

Paul Ip, Team Hong Kong GT Cup driver: “It’s very exciting to be part of this unique event and to represent Hong Kong. KCMG has worked closely with Honda this year on the TCR side but now I get to experience the GT3 with the NSX, so I’m excited for that. Hopefully we will have a smooth weekend and finish well.”

Marchy Lee, Team Hong Kong GT Cup driver: “I am very happy to represent Hong Kong alongside Paul in the first FIA Motorsport Games in the GT Cup, and I also look forward to driving the Honda NSX GT3 for the first time. We will give our very best and we hope to achieve a good result.”

Jim Ka To, Team Hong Kong Touring Car Cup driver: “I’m very happy to represent Hong Kong in the first FIA Motorsport Games, thanks to KCMG for giving me this opportunity. I hope to score a strong result for this unique event.”
