The innovative KC MG-01 Formula 4 car purpose-built by KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) for the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games will be raced for the first time in Vallelunga, Rome this weekend (November 1-3).
The SRO Motorsports Group-organised event sees entrants representing their countries in six disciplines and will receive gold, silver and bronze medals for each competition, which contributes to an overall medal table.
20 rising stars from the junior formulae racing scene will represent their nations in the Formula 4 Cup in the KC MG-01, the world’s first hybrid single-seater outside of Formula 1. The car also features the Halo safety device, which will be mandatory in other F4 championships from 2021 onwards.
All cars will be operated by world class race team Hitech GP, who will share data between the drivers and set the cars up identically to ensure driver talent is at the forefront of the competition.
Australia’s national F4 champion Luis Leeds, alongside Denmark’s Malthe Jakobsen and Russia’s Pavel Bulantsev, arrive with proven pace at this level. Meanwhile Kuwait’s Mohammed Al Nusif, New Zealand’s Flynn Mullany, Portugal’s Mariano Pires, Malaysia’s Jasper Thong and Brazil’s Joao Rosate will race F4 machinery for the first time, although each has experience in similar disciplines.
Several entries have come from those who have recently raced in the Italian and German F4 championships, including the Czech Republic’s Vaclav Safar, Germany’s Niklas Krutten, Hungary’s Laslo Toth and Israel’s Ido Cohen. Belgium entrant Nicolas Naert competed in Spanish F4 this season.
Also racing in Italian F4 was Finland’s entry Williams Alatalo, while Spain’s Belen Garcia, Japan’s Kazuto Kotaka, Italy’s Andrea Rosso and France’s Reshad de Gerus each competed in their native series. The Southeast Asia championship has also contributed Ireland’s Lucca Allen, while Hugo Hung from Hong Kong has Asian Formula Renault experience on his CV.
The drivers will have two 45-minute practice sessions on Friday at 11:30 (GMT +1) and 15:15 before a 15-minute qualifying on Saturday at 09:10. A 20-minute Qualifying Race at 12:20 will determine the grid for the Main Race on Sunday at 11:40 which will run for 30 minutes.
Paul Ip, KCMG founder: “I am honoured and also very proud to see KCMG join the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games as an official partner manufacturer. A capacity grid featuring 20 drivers from around the world represents the ideal showcase for the KC MG-01 chassis and its revolutionary hybrid technology, as well as the culmination of much hard work and dedication. Successfully delivering a fleet of new-generation Formula 4 cars for international competition ranks as a major milestone in KCMG’s history.”
