KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) and its ground-breaking hybrid KC MG-01 Formula 4 car celebrated a hugely successful maiden outing at the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games in Vallelunga, Rome, for the Formula 4 Cup category.
The KC MG-01 is the world’s first hybrid single-seater outside of the FIA Formula One World Championship, and also features a halo device, which will be made available on F4 cars by 2021 and mandatory for 2024.
Prepared for the FIA and SRO Motorsports Group-organised event and operated by world class racing outfit Hitech GP, KCMG’s F4 cars performed at a very high standard, providing exciting racing and offering a unique challenge to the 20 promising young drivers.
After the cars, nations and drivers were presented during the parade and official opening ceremony, the first day of running got underway with a pair of free practice sessions, which were both topped by Italy’s home hero Andrea Rosso.
Qualifying took place in wet conditions, with Israel’s Ido Cohen demonstrating the speed that took him to an Italian F4 podium at Vallelunga earlier this year to claim pole position, ahead of Rosso.
In the Qualifying Race, Germany’s Niklas Kruetten led for much of the thrilling encounter, but Rosso charged from third to take the lead on the penultimate lap, crossing the line in first. A two-second penalty for overtaking Cohen under yellow flags promoted the Israeli to victory though, with Italy second and Germany third.
From pole, Cohen managed the gap behind until Rosso caught up on a drying track, eventually passing with 10 minutes remaining. The Italian edged away and retained the lead despite a late safety car to take gold in his home FIA Motorsport Games. Germany won silver, with Finland’s William Alatalo taking bronze, as Israel slipped down the order on worn tyres.
Following the success of this year’s event, KCMG’s F4 cars will return for the 2020 FIA Motorsport Games, which will open up to an even bigger grid.
Paul Ip, KCMG Founder: “First off, we’d like to thank everyone at the FIA and SRO for this fantastic opportunity to be a part of the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games. Hitech GP also did an excellent job in running the KC MG-01 cars throughout the event. Congratulations to the medal winners, Italy, Germany and Finland, and all the other competitors who took part in the Formula 4 Cup. We’re looking forward to returning next year with our F4 cars.”
