KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) will switch to the Honda NSX GT3 Evo for the Japanese endurance series Pirelli Super Taikyu with team founder Paul Ip, Intercontinental GT Challenge drivers Josh Burdon and Edoardo Liberati, and Super GT’s Hiroki Otsu.
After claiming two class podiums during KCMG’s debut season with the Honda Civic Type R TCR, the Hong Kong-based squad will step up to the premier ST-X category for GT3 cars. The team is already familiar with the NSX having raced it while representing their nation during the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games in Vallelunga, Rome last year.
Ip returns after being part of the 2019 full-season line-up and is no stranger to GT3 machinery following his Motorsport Games outing, as well as multiple rounds in Asian Le Mans Series.
Australian Burdon will once again partner him, for five of the six rounds, having made appearances at Motegi and Fuji last year. His IGTC team-mate Liberati will make his Pirelli Super Taikyu debut, bringing extensive knowledge of the region’s circuits as a GT Asia champion.
Japanese Formula 3 race winner Otsu will join the squad for the opening two rounds. Otsu has spent two seasons gaining experience with the Honda NSX in Super GT and will also be driving the GT500 version this year.
The first round of the 2020 Pirelli Super Taikyu Series will take place at the Suzuka International Circuit, where KCMG finished in the top three last season, on 21-22 March.
Paul Ip: “It’s great continue in the Pirelli Super Taikyu Series with Honda, but we’re changing the game by entering the top category using the NSX GT3 Evo. It’ll be a new challenge for us and one that we are excited to take on. We certainly have a strong line-up to help us along the way.”
Josh Burdon: “I’m excited to expand my programme with KCMG in 2020 by competing in Pirelli Super Taikyu with Paul and Edo in the Honda. For sure we have a strong package and race wins are our clear objective. I can’t wait to get started.”
Edoardo Liberati: “I’m glad to be teaming up with Paul and Josh. I love Japanese motorsport and I’m very excited about Pirelli Super Taikyu. Thanks to KCMG for this opportunity. We have good line-up and a competitive car, so definitely our aim is to fight at the front.”
