carrozzeria Team KCMG enjoyed a positive 2020 Super Formula test at the Fuji Intenational Speedway (24-25 March), running two cars for the first time for the returning Kamui Kobayashi and team newcomer Yuji Kunimoto.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the test ran behind closed doors with teams only allowed access to their own garages, and personnel given face masks and mandatory health checks.
Both of the Hong Kong squad’s Toyota-powered Dallara SF19 cars completed a combined 261 laps across the two days, providing the team with plenty of data and feedback from its drivers.
2016 Super Formula champion Kunimoto and ex-Formula 1 star Kobayashi used their combined experience to give carrozzeria Team KCMG a clear direction ahead of the first scheduled round at Autopolis on 17 May.
Kamui Kobayashi: “It was a productive first test of 2020. Running two cars for the first time went very well, as Yuji and I were able to suggest different areas for improvement. I had a good feeling in the car on both short and long runs, so I’m confident that we will be right on the pace when the season gets underway.”
Yuji Kunimoto: “I feel we found a good set-up and collected a lot of important data during the Fuji test. I quickly felt very comfortable with the team on my first outing and I’d like to thank them for this opportunity. We know what we need to do ahead of the opening round at Autopolis and I’m looking forward to the new season.”
