KCMG caps off challenging weekend in Ordos with victory

It was quite an unpredictable weekend for KCMG as the team went through a series of highs and lows during the 3rd event of Formula Pilota at Ordos International Circuit in Inner Mongolia. Dan Wells and Akash Nandy arrived in Ordos with a mindset to defend and see off the opposition’s challenge to take the championship lead. In spite of several setbacks, Wells took his third victory for the team after a strong drive during Race 3.

The race weekend started with both drivers completing a number of good laps and wrapped up testing with motivating results. Wells qualified 3rd while Nandy took 8th position during the first session. However, Wells stalled at the start of Race 1 and frustratingly dropped to last place but was able to fight back and secure a 7th place finish while Nandy finished 8th.

After setting a slow lap time while battling his way through traffic in Race 1, Wells started 7th on the grid while Nandy was positioned behind his British teammate in 8th place for Race 2 the following day. Despite both drivers trying their best to challenge further at the front, Wells only managed to finish 6th while his Malaysian teammate took 8th place. Undeterred by these hitches, the team maintained its optimism and remained focused on trying to finish on top of the podium for the last race.

In sweltering conditions, Wells took his third victory of the season after a flawless drive during Race 3, capping off KCMG’s weekend in Ordos with triumph. After a good start, the British driver took a brave move on the first corner to overtake Indonesian driver, Sean Galeal- taking the lead from there until the checkered flag. Meanwhile, Nandy had an unfortunate collision while battling for 5th position which resulted in having the Malaysian driver to retire late in the race.

Proving himself as a tough contender for the Formula Pilota championship title, Wells extends his gratitude to his supporters who have backed him since Day 1 of his racing campaign in Asia. Referring back to his interesting weekend which concluded with a remarkable win, the British driver was quoted, “We were always playing catch up from failing to get away in Race One. We stuck at it however and the team made the changes that I needed to get the result we deserved.”

Despite the slightly disappointing weekend, Nandy remains positive and takes the challenges that he had over his latest Formula Pilota outing as learning curves in single seater motor racing. According to Nandy, “I was aiming for more significant results and it’s quite disappointing that I was not able to finish the last race because of that crash. But these are things that we learn from and this only motivates me to do better. I will be aiming for better results the next time I am around with the team. Ordos was quite an experience for me and I’m looking forward to joining the team again later in the year.”

KCMG Deputy Managing Director John O’Hara sees the latest race weekend in Ordos as challenging yet very fulfilling as the team followed through with a victory despite a slow start. “I have to commend the team for not losing sight of what we initially came here for- which is to win. Despite the difficulties that we had during Race 1 and 2, Dan and Akash stayed buoyant and focused. It’s always nice to celebrate a victory and I’m very proud of Dan as he once again puts us on top of the podium here in Ordos.”

Dan Wells gained 100 points after this recent event and stands 2nd overall in the series. The team is looking forward to Formula Pilota’s 4th event which shall take place in Guangdong International Circuit in China on September 15-16.
