carrozzeria Team KCMG aims to end 2020 on a high in Fuji

carrozzeria Team KCMG aims to finish the 2020 Super Formula season on a positive note at the Fuji Speedway, after claiming its first podium of the campaign last time out.

Following the success of Race 1 in Suzuka, where Yuji Kunimoto took the team’s first rostrum of 2020, backed up by Kamui Kobayashi’s fourth securing a first double points finish, the Hong Kong squad is focused on achieving equally strong results in the final event of an unusual season. The team has made big improvements throughout the campaign, a trend which is set to continue for this weekend’s season finale.

Based in the foothills of Mount Fuji, the famous 4.563km Fuji Speedway is known for its stunning landscape, technical layout and iconic 1.475km pit straight. It has been a happy hunting ground for both the team’s drivers in the past, with Kunimoto on the podium twice in Super Formula and victorious in Super GT’s GT300 category. Kobayashi has taken two wins at the former Japanese Grand Prix venue in the World Endurance Championship for Toyota.

In this incredibly tough year for so many, carrozzeria Team KCMG would like to thank Japan Race Promotion for its brilliant work to organise a season for 2020, as well as Toyota for its continued support as the team aims to close our first season with two cars in a positive fashion, and extend its congratulations to its competitors on the track for helping the series provide entertaining races despite the challenges faced this year.

carrozzeria Team KCMG will remain at the Fuji Speedway after the Super Formula finale for a two-day post-season test on 22-23 December with Kunimoto and Kobayashi.

Yuji Kunimoto: “It has been a strange season with the delayed start, but we have made great progress and I was delighted to take my first podium of the year in Suzuka. Now we have to try to improve on that result again at Fuji. I want to thank the team for their support this season and I’m hopeful we can end the year on a high.”

Kamui Kobayashi: “Fuji is a track I am familiar with, having raced there in Super Formula and WEC. I enjoy the flow of the circuit and I’m excited to get back in the car. 2020 has been a difficult season for me, missing two events due to my WEC commitments, but I have a good feeling in the car after finishing fourth in Suzuka. A big thank you to the team and the fans for supporting me in 2020, I hope I can get a strong result in Fuji for you all.”

Tsugio Matsuda, Team Manager: “Firstly, we have to say congratulations to Japan Race Promotion for their amazing work to arrange a Super Formula calendar. The whole team has enjoyed the season, but without the fans at the events there has definitely been something missing, though we hope to see them return in 2021. Our results have been improving throughout the season and it was brilliant to see Yuji on the podium at Suzuka. We believe we have the pace in both cars to make the podium again, which would be a great way to end a difficult year for everyone.”
